Are You Screening?: Gran Torino - Movie Review

  • stephanieebarr · 11 months ago
Hmm, sounds interesting, though I like to have someone likable in a film, if possible. Not sure Walt will do it for me.

(This is the first review of yours I've read where I had the tiniest issue with the writing. It seemed to me a bit repetitive and I actually thought it sounded like you'd written a paragraph in then rewrote it and left them both in. You can delete this comment if you like, but, since it's something I'm prone to myself, I thought I'd tell you my impression in case that much repetition wasn't what you intended).

Deleting a comment for legitimately constructive criticism would be... odd. I appreciate the comment very much. I see your point really. I wrote this review somewhere around four times, and I'm not surprised if it reads a bit repetitive.

Thanks very much for the comment.

Clint Eastwood used his outward crankiness to come across as tough and yet also heroic at the same time, well done i'd say

His portrayal of his character was quite good. He might have stumbled once or twice, but it was definitely an above-average job.

    Appreciate the comment.

This was a really good movie, one of my favorites for 08 kinda funny in some parts Eastwood did good. Good review.

I saw this movie last night - it is easily one of the most powerful films I've seen in a long time. There are many layers going on here - but Eastwood's simple visual style and straight-forward story-telling just make it a joy to watch. There are moments or humor, horror, violence, real emotion... a great, great film.

Glad to hear that you liked it, and appreciate the comment.

I think you're right, and the problem is that very few people are getting to any other layers.

    Cheers.

I have seen all of Eastwood's movies starting with the spaghetti westerns thru Million Dollar Baby. He won an Academy Award for Unforgiven and I feel he should get the award for Gran Torino. This is by far his greatest acting performance as well as dtrection. The fact that everyone is screaming racism tells you how strong his delivery was. Best work yet. And he had the balls to put a politically incorrect film on the big screen

I love Clint Eastwood as actor and also as director. I thought the ending of this movie was a real shocker ... I still enjoyed the plot and of course of the acting.
